Voodou

Voodou Jnr, is the new styling service offered to young people aged 15 and under around Liverpool. Voodou's new generation of young clients will benefit from discounted rates for Voodou's high standard of styling. A wash and cut is priced from just £13 and a cut and finish from £19.

To celebrate the launch of Voodou's new Jnr service a team of fresh new stylists have been put together across Voodou's five Liverpool salons.

Liverpool salon chain Voodou has announced 15 year old Charlotte Sloan from Huyton and 13 year old Reece Mockl from West Derby as the winners of their Jnr of the Year competition.

The competition hunted for inspirational kids across the city by calling on family and friends to nominate people they felt were deserving winners of a year’s free hairdressing. One boy and one girl winner were picked by a panel to represent the new service, which provides hairdressing to 15s and under, for a whole twelve months.

Rob Webb, Voodou’s Managing Director who helped to judge the competition was delighted with the outcome, "We literally had hundreds of deserving entries which made the winners so hard to decide. Entrants were nominated for all kinds of things, from being good at sports, having a talent for music, doing well in school, and even a bunch of entrants from aspiring hairdressers.”

13 year old Reece Mockl from West Derby was nominated by his mum Sue, "When Reece was studying for his SATs exams he was overcome by stress which turned into Alopecia and caused large chunks of his hair to fall out.” Sue told us, "I always knew how hard he was working but we were all shocked at how stressed the exams had made him. He had a big patch at the side missing and a few towards the back.”

"I hated it”, explained Reece, "it was horrible and it took me ages to restyle my hair to cover the patches.” The Alopecia lasted for 18 months and although Reece’s excellent exam results highlighted his hard work, Sue felt this prize would be a brilliant way to reward her son now that his hair has fully grown back.

"Reece was made up to win and I was so surprised and happy for him. I couldn’t thank Voodou enough as now that his hair is all back it grows so fast we’re at the barbers every few weeks! I nominated Reece because of everything he went through but also to recognise how much of a good role model he is to other lads. Reece is really into his football and plays on his school team on Saturdays and Sundays, he also really enjoys taking part in the school athletics and does a lot of cross country running.” Reece who will be going into year nine at Saint Edwards College this term, hopes to be a Pharmacist and has opted to take Maths and Science as his chosen subjects.

Reece was invited into Voodou’s Bold Street salon to meet his Jnr Stylist Jess Logue and talk over the kind of styles he would want for his new hair. "I like Tom Daly’s hair and Zayn from One Direction is cool”.

15 year old Charlotte Sloan from West Derby was also invited into the salon, to meet her Voodou Jnr Stylist Chloe Jeffries, as the other winner in the competition. Charlotte’s mum Karen nominated her daughter for her caring attitude. "Charlotte is a model daughter and I know a lot of parents must think the same but she really is. She never has to be asked to help out around the house and when she’s not studying for school she’s helping out me or her sister. My other daughter has five young boys, one of whom is Autistic, and Charlotte is always round helping to babysit or play with the boys.

Charlotte who attends Huyton Arts and Sports Centre for Learning hopes to start at St Helens College after completing her GCSEs where she will take a Nursing and NHS Cadets course to become a midwife. "I always wanted to be a midwife and I love watching One Born Every Minute”, says Charlotte. "I enjoy helping people and especially from looking after my nephew Daniel I know I want to do something that matters. Daniel often has fits so I learnt through the help of school, techniques to help calm him down. It’s doing things that help others that make me happy.

In winning the competition Charlotte said, "I was happy and shocked when the radio phoned us up to say I’d won. It was such a nice surprise thank you to Voodou for choosing me. I naturally have really frizzy hair which I straighten every day just to tame and sometimes it can take me like three hours! I think I’m going to try ombre now I’ve won this prize as I love that look. People like Demi Lovato and Nicki Minaj are great inspiration for me when it comes to hair.”
