The Albert Dock has had a dramatic history ranging from a glittering opening by Prince Albert in 1846 through to a turning point in the present day regeneration in September 1983, with the signing of an agreement between the Merseyside Development Corporation and the specially created Albert Dock Company, which enabled the dramatic redevelopment the Dock to take place. The first phase opened in 1984 and the final underdeveloped space was brought into use in 2003.
Today, the Dock offers a fabulous range of award winning attractions including the world-famous Beatles Story, the new International Slavery Museum, Merseyside Maritime Museum and Tate Liverpool, along with a host of other tours and activities.The Dock also offers a great range of stylish and fashionable bars and restaurants including Babycream, Blue and The Pan American Club together with speciality souvenir and gift shops. The Dock also boasts two hotels and a unique, year-round calendar of events.
The Albert Dock really does deserve to win Juice FM's Style Awards - as Liverpool's most visited Tourist Attraction, which showcases the best of the city in a stunning World Heritage Waterfront setting. Tate Liverpool is the home of the national collection of modern and contemporary art in the North. Turner Prize 2007, the most presigious art competiton in the world, comes to Liverpool this year as part of their special exhibition programme. Late at Tate Liverpool on the last Thursday of the month has events, music, food, drink and the best modern and contemporary art and there is a full family and events programme for you to get involved.
