La Machine (Spider)Thousands of delighted onlookers lined the streets of Liverpool, waiting to greet the fifty-foot high spider dubbed ‘La Princesse’ by her creators, French theatrical engineers La Machine.

Vast in scale and spectacular in execution, this breathtaking new commission was undoubtedly a highlight of the City’s European Capital of Culture celebrations in September 2008.

Superlambananas

SuperlambananasThey took over the city in the Summer and brought art to life across the streets of Liverpool.

The 125, two metre tall replicas of Taro Chiezo's iconic SuperLambBanana sculpture were seen all over Liverpool and further afeld. These lambananas specially painted, decorated and adorned by local artists, schools and community groups, formed a free to view, open air, public art spectacularm enjoyed by thousands.

Liverpool Sound Concert

Liverpool Sound ConcertAnfield football ground witnessed one of the greatest nights in its history on 1 June 2008 - with a stunning concert by Sir Paul McCartney to celebrate the city's year as European Capital of Culture.

Brilliantly supported by The Kaiser Chiefs and The Zutons, the ex-Beatle - who last played in Liverpool exactly five years ago - gave a magical show with a blockbuster set of hits from his Fab Four, Wings and solo career that had the sold-out stadium on its feet for a full two hours.
