Detectives are appealing for witnesses following a burglary at the home of two pensioners in their 80s in Wirral on Saturday.
Officers were called to Leasowe Road after receiving a report that the couple's house of the couple had been broken into.
The burglary happened between 5.15pm and 7.30pm when the LFC v Bolton Wanderers match was on.
The offender stole a quantity of cash and numerous sentimental items. These include a gold bracelet with a diamonte style pattern, a gold bracelet engraved with a pattern, a brooch with a picture of a lady, a gold one-inch locket with an engraved pattern on the front, a pearl necklace in a presentation box and a gold-plated wrist watch with a light coloured square face bought from 'Prices' in Birkenhead some 50 years ago as a gift.
Officers are appealing to anyone with any information about the incident to come forward.
DC Chris O'Connor said: "The victims have been left extremely upset and frightened by the incident.
"Leasowe Road is a busy road and lots of people would have been about at that time on Saturday.
"We urge anyone who may have seen someone acting suspiciously in the area of Leasowe Road around that time to call us in case they have information that could help us bring the offender to justice and hopefully reunite this couple with their precious belongings."
Anyone with any information is asked to call Wirral CID on 0151 777 2265, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
