Officers are investigating after receiving a report that a 19-year-old woman had been sexually assaulted on Jamaica Street, in the city centre, at around 2.50am on Monday, December 27.

The victim was approached by a man as she walked along Jamaica Street towards Parliament Street. The male sexually assaulted the woman who after a short time was able to break free and run in the direction of Greenland Street.

The offender is described as being around 19 years old  with short dark hair and about 5ft 7in tall. At the time of the offence he was wearing a short sleeve mustard coloured t-shirt with dark trousers.

DC Adam Palwala said: "At the time of this incident there were a number of other people in the area who had been celebrating Boxing Day and we are keen to speak to anyone who can provide any information regarding this assault.

"We are also keen to identify the man pictured in this CCTV around the time of the incident who may be able to assist with our enquiries."

Anyone with any information is asked to call the Unity Team on 0151 777 1382, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111
