Celebrate 50 Years of Love Me Do in Liverpool

Celebrate 50 Years of Love Me Do in Liverpool

2012 has been the year to mark many special events in British history. The year of HRH the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the London 2012 Olympic Games. Further north of all the action, in Merseyside, year-long festivities have been taking place to honour 50 years of the biggest British band in history, The Beatles.

The world is welcome to be part of the revelries, with bargain Liverpool hotels accommodating travellers on a budget. Cheap hotel rooms from Travelodge are a cost efficient option.

After a show stopping performance at Horticultural Society’s 17th annual dance on 18 August 1962, John, Paul, George and Ringo became The Beatles. With their first official release, Love Me Do, quickly followed by Please Please Me and From Me to You.

Summer may be coming to a close, but the programme of Beatles themed events continues. From commemoration weekends – remembering the late John Lennon – to the magnificent Love Me Do Weekend in October - the best of The Beatles celebrations are yet to come.

Love Me Do Weekend

5 – 7 October 2012

The Love Me Do Weekend presents a unique opportunity to be part of The Beatles history. Join the crowds on Friday 5 October to ‘celebrate the 50th anniversary of the release of The Beatles single ‘Love Me Do’ by becoming world record breakers!’

Hundreds of thousands of Beatles fans and travellers alike are expected to flock to the city to witness and partake in this enormous event organised by Albert Dock Liverpool and the Beatles Story attraction.

With the weekend in full swing, take a trip down memory lane at the Cavern Club. Open from 14:00hrs until late, the infamous cellar bar hosts 50 Years of Love Me Do. Get there before 20:00hrs for free entry.

Restaurants and local attractions are scheduled to participate in the weekend’s events, creating a programme of one-off experiences. In a year of superb shows, performances, tributes and more, Love Me Do Weekend is expected to steal the crown as the best Beatles event of 2012.

Cheap hotel rooms from Travelodge will enable frugal fans to extend their visit for John Lennon’s Birthday Celebration on 9 October. Expect another unforgettable evening at the Cavern Club, with regular bands and musicians playing homage to Lennon’s contribution to music.

Beyond Love Me Do, other 2012 events include: George Harrison Remembered (29 November), The Bootleg Beatles (7 December), and the Liverpool Philharmonic Beatles Weekend (7 – 9 December). View the full programme of events here.
